Do you find yourself struggling to start or maintain your fitness routine? Give these 5 tips a try!
1: 10-minute walks. Add in a quick walk before work, during your lunch break, or after dinner for an easy way to increase your daily activity. Gradually increase the duration of your walks or add in a second 10-minute bout to stay moving throughout the day. Breaking up long periods of sitting is a great way to improve circulation, regulate blood sugar, and decrease muscle stiffness.
2: Bodyweight workouts. You don’t always need the gym and equipment to get a workout in! Bodyweight workouts are great for days where you need a lower intensity day or when you’re short on time and can’t make it to the gym.
3: Bring a buddy! Working out with a friend not only makes exercise more enjoyable, but people are also more likely to stick to their fitness routines if they have social support and accountability.
4: Start small. Exercise doesn’t need to be all-or-nothing. Doing too much too soon can lead to injury! Stay healthy by building a base of strength first, then adding in more reps, sets, tempo, and weight.
5: Join a group exercise class or get started with a personal trainer! Take the guess work out of your exercise routine by utilizing fitness professionals. If you are new to exercise, take the time to invest in your health and strength by working with a trainer who will tailor fitness to your goals. If you are someone who already has a strength background and are looking for something new and exciting, try out exercise classes! The group setting adds in an element of fun and camaraderie.
Starting a new exercise routine may seem intimidating at first, but with these tips you can get started one step at a time!
